Presbyopia
is an eye condition that occurs as a part of normal aging. Although
the process occurs gradually over a number of years, symptoms are usually
noticeable between 40-45 and continue to develop until the process
stabilizes some 10 years later.
As individuals age, the crystalline lens in the eye becomes less flexible
and elastic and the eye muscles become less effective.
These changes result in an inadequate adjustment of the lens so that close
objects appear blurry. Currently the only available treatment is reading
glasses.
Dr Nicholas (Nick) C Caro MD has developed a revolutionary new technique believed to be effective in treating presbyopia.
This technique involves the placement of four small clips on the outer part of the eye, which enables the eye to focus on near objects again.
The procedure is now in clinical trials and participants in early studies have reported an improvement in near vision generally within 48 hours following the procedure.
