Dr. Nicholas Caro, Md., Medical Director
Physician, Educator, Researcher

A recognized pioneer in the field of corrective eye surgery, Nicholas Caro, M.D., has performed more than 25,000 procedures helping individuals enjoy a more satisfying, productive life.

After receiving his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin, in Milwaukee, Dr. Caro completed an internship and ophthalmology residency at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. In 1985 he continued his training in refractive surgery at the Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary and continually updates his medical education at approved ophthalmology meetings. Dr. Caro has invented several instruments (click here for Nick Caro patent info) that refractive surgeons around the country use in performing LASIK which include:a newer and quieter microkeratome, the Caro stromal polisher/flap manipulator, the Caro Lasik cornea marker, the Caro Lasik flap elevator and the Caro Lasik smoother to treat flap irregularities following Lasik surgery. Dr. Caro also holds several medical patents and continues to research new ways to help patients improve the quality of their lives.

In 1991, Dr. Caro opened the St. George Corrective Vision Center, the Midwest’s first facility devoted solely to refractive surgery. At that time Radial Keratotomy or RK, was the most widely accepted procedure to correct mildly nearsighted individuals. But as technology expanded the treatment options, Dr. Caro’s research demonstrated that LASIK provided better, consistent outcomes, especially for patients who were not candidates for RK.

Dr. Caro traveled abroad teaching LASIK to physicians in China and Germany. When the FDA approved clinical test sites for LASIK in the United States, the St. George Corrective Vision Center was one of the first in the Chicago area. Many Chicago area physicians came to the center to train under him.

The St. George Corrective Vision Staff is trained to explain refractive surgery procedures to you and to assist the physicians. Surgeries are staffed, not only by the physician, but also by a surgical assistant and nurse anesthetist. Our trained staff understands your concerns and offers compassionate attention that makes you feel at ease and comfortable.
